The composition here is wonderful. When you unfocus the eyes it feels almost as if it's an abstract painting--it reminds me of the work of Franz Kline, who uses bold black lines that recall calligraphy. I like this use of the abstraction, and the texture of the sweatshirt, skin, lips, and hair together with the smooth black of the shadows is really nice. I feel a little bit like the light on the nose is almost too strong, overpowering the delicate highlights on the hair and lips, but in another sense, that bright shape brings your eye to the center of the shadow. I'm not sure how I'd handle that one.

Gorgeous. Great composition and amazing use of shadow. This has a lot of emotion to it and I love the contrasts of light and dark.
